About
The Tweed Richmond Organic Producers Organisation - TROPO - was established in 1989 as a grassroots local action group dedicated to fostering organic agriculture and gardening on the NSW North Coast.
Members include commercial organic producers and processors, part-time farmers, home gardeners, conventional farmers considering converting to organic methods and many other with an interest in supporting the kind of agriculture that does not harm people or the environment.
TROPO is committed to supporting local food production and consumption and in doing so intends to optimise the health and longevity of the soil life, plants, animals and people.
TROPO activities include meetings, workshops and field days covering practical organic farming and gardening techniques and looking at wider issues in sustainable agriculture. TROPO also publishes a quality magazine twice yearly, included in the annual membership.
Farm walks and workshops
Education is a major focus of TROPO. The farm walk and workshop component provides a great opportunity for TROPO members to see the developments taking place on organic farms and for organic farmers it allows for the sharing of information and experiences between producers and people with an interest in organic farming.
We aim to hold four farm events each year in different parts of the region and at each of the events the host farmer, along with representatives from TROPO, will be on hand to answer questions. Children, of course are always welcome but we ask that you leave your pets at home.
Farm walks and workshops are advertised through our newsletters and on social media and are featured in every edition of TROPOs’ Going Organic magazine.
